Itinerary:
Day 1, Arrival
Upon arrival at Munich Airport catch the train to Nuremberg. Settle in for the circa 2 hr train journey as you head north towards your destination. Check in and spend the rest of day at leisure. Overnight Nuremberg.
Day 2, Nuremberg
After breakfast, start exploring this northern Bavarian gem. Take in the sights on your own making sure not to miss the Kaiserburg Castle, Hauptmarkt Square with its fountain ͞Schöner Brunnen͟ and the impressive Frauenkirche. Stroll through the streets in the in the Old Town and take a break at one of the numerous cafes.
There is plenty of time to visit the Nuremberg Christmas Market. Here you can hunt for glass Christmas tree baubles, hand-made gold foil angels or nativity figurines and nutcrackers made of wood. For the lover of Christmas music there are many high-quality concerts, for the passionate international shopper there are many exclusive boutiques and shops with original ideas for presents and for the little ones there is the children’s Christmas and the Sternenhaus (House of Stars). The Christmas Market is open daily from November 30th– December 24th from morning until evening. Overnight Nuremberg.
Day 3, Nuremberg-Munich
Today it’s time to move on to Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Make your own way to the train station in Nuremberg. Relax on the circa 1.5 hr train journey as it takes you through some amazing scenery as you travel south. Once in Munich there is only a short distance tothe hotel. Spend the rest of the day exploring Munich. Overnight Munich.
Day 4, Munich
After breakfast, begin your first day in the capital of Bavaria with a Hop on/off tour. Discover all the major sights of Munich aboard a double-decker bus. Highlights include City Hall in Marienplatz, Karlsplatz with Stachus, the Opera and the BMW World. In addition, the tour passes the Palace of Nymphenburg, the Olympic Grounds as well as the Siegestor near the English Garden. A complete tour lasts 2.5 hours. Plenty of time now for Munich’s Christmas market in the Marienplatz in the city center. The Christmas Market still retains its traditional Bavarian character, showing a variety of handmade items available for purchase. Baked apples, gingerbread and more: There’s a range of culinary delicacies at the Christmas Market. Daily from 10am, the 160+ booths are open for visitor.
During the evening you can listen to Advent music, a glass of mulled wine in your hand – and really get into the mood for Christmas! The biggest attraction – literally – is the magnificent Christmas tree in front of the new town hall (Neues Rathaus): Around 2,500 candles lend the entire square a delightful Advent ambience. The Christmas Market is open daily from November 27th– December 24th from morning until evening. Overnight Munich.
Day 5, Departure
Time to bid farewell to Munich and make your way to Munich Airport.
